iOS icons are exported without transparency (Apple requires it). Adaptive and maskable icons keep your artwork inside the safe zone automatically.

How to use App Icon Generator

  1. 1

    Add your artwork

Upload a square logo (1024 px or larger is best) or create a letter icon with your own font and colours.

  2. 2

    Style the icon

Choose a solid, gradient or transparent background, set the artwork size and preview it as iOS, Android round and favicon icons.

  3. 3

    Download the ZIP

Get iOS, Android and web icons in the right folders, with Contents.json, adaptive icon XML, manifest and HTML snippet.

Every app icon size in one click

Publishing an app or a progressive web app means exporting the same icon in dozens of sizes and formats. This free app icon generator does it in one go, right in your browser. Upload a 1024 × 1024 px image, or design a simple letter icon, and download a ZIP that drops straight into Xcode, Android Studio or your website.

What is in the ZIP

  • iOS and iPadOS: a complete AppIcon.appiconset folder with all iPhone, iPad and App Store sizes (20 to 1024 px) and a matching Contents.json. Transparency is removed automatically, because Apple rejects icons with an alpha channel.
  • Android: mipmap-mdpi to mipmap-xxxhdpi folders with legacy ic_launcher, ic_launcher_round, adaptive ic_launcher_foreground and ic_launcher_background layers, the mipmap-anydpi-v26 XML files (with a themed monochrome layer) and a 512 px Google Play icon.
  • Web and PWA: favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px), PNG favicons, a 180 px Apple touch icon, 192 and 512 px manifest icons, maskable icons with a safe zone, a manifest.webmanifest and a copy-paste HTML snippet.

Adaptive and maskable icons done right

Android adaptive icons and PWA maskable icons are cropped into circles, squircles or rounded squares depending on the device. Only the centre of the image is guaranteed to be visible: 72 of 108 dp for Android and the central 80% for maskable icons. The generator automatically keeps your artwork inside these safe zones while the background fills the whole canvas.

Design tips for app icons

  • Keep it simple: one bold shape or letter reads best at 29 px.
  • Avoid text other than a single letter or two.
  • Use a strong, solid or gradient background instead of transparency.
  • Check the small favicon preview: if it is unrecognisable, simplify the artwork.
  • Start from a vector logo or a 1024 px PNG for sharp large sizes.

Frequently asked questions

What size should my source image be?
Use a square image of at least 1024 × 1024 px. Smaller images work, but the largest icons may look soft.
Can I use the iOS icons directly in Xcode?
Yes. Drag the AppIcon.appiconset folder from the ZIP into Assets.xcassets and replace the existing AppIcon. Contents.json is included.
Does it create Android adaptive icons?
Yes. You get separate foreground and background layers for every density plus the mipmap-anydpi-v26 XML files, along with legacy square and round icons.
Why is my iOS icon not transparent?
Apple does not allow transparency in app icons, so transparent areas are filled with white or your background colour on iOS sizes.
What is a maskable icon?
A maskable icon is a PWA icon with extra padding so that any device mask (circle, squircle, rounded square) can crop it without cutting off the artwork.
Do I get a favicon too?
Yes. The web folder includes favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 px images, PNG favicons and an Apple touch icon.
Is my image uploaded?
No. All icons are generated in your browser and packed into the ZIP locally.
