Higher error correction keeps the code readable when it is printed small, worn or partly covered, but makes it denser.

How a WiFi QR code works

A WiFi QR code stores your network name, password and security type in a standard format (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;). When someone points their phone camera at it, iPhone and Android offer to join the network straight away, without anyone typing or spelling out a long password.

Where to use it

  • Homes and guest rooms: stick it on the fridge or by the router.
  • Cafés, restaurants and bars: print it on table tents, menus or the counter.
  • Airbnb and holiday rentals: include it in the welcome book.
  • Offices and events: put it at reception or on badges for the guest network.

Tips

  • Use a separate guest network so visitors do not get access to your main devices.
  • If you change the password, create and print a new code, because the password is stored inside it.
  • Choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for almost every modern router; use None only for open networks.
  • Add a frame with a clear call to action, such as Scan to join WiFi, so people know what the code is for.

Frequently asked questions

Which phones can scan a WiFi QR code?
All recent iPhones (iOS 11 and later) and Android phones can join a network from a WiFi QR code using the built-in camera. Older Android phones may need Google Lens.
Is it safe to share my WiFi password in a QR code?
The password is stored inside the code, so anyone who scans it can join. Use a guest network for visitors and create a new code if you change the password.
My network is hidden. Will it work?
Yes. Tick Hidden network and the phone will connect even though the network does not broadcast its name.
Is it free?
Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up, no watermark and no scan limits.
Do the QR codes expire?
No. They are static QR codes: everything is stored in the code itself, so they work forever without any subscription.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The QR code is generated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
